We are Looking for Elders to Join Our Team!

Xyólheméylh, also know as Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society (FVACFSS), has an Elders Advisory Group which ensures we are delivering services in a culturally appropriate and sensitive way. They meet regularly and provide invaluable advice to our social workers on our policies and practices as well as language, ceremony and culture. We want to expand our Advisory Group and also develop a network of Elders who could provide specific services to caregivers, families, children and youth. The Elders should live in the Fraser Valley from Langley in the west to Yale in the east.

About Xyolhemeylh / Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society
Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society is a fully delegated Aboriginal child welfare agency providing culturally appropriate and holistic services through prevention, community development and child welfare programs to Aboriginal (Status, Non-Status, On Reserve, Off Reserve, Stó:lō and other First Nations, Inuit and Metis) children, youth and families residing throughout the Fraser Valley.
We were established in 1992 and our programs and services are created and executed with special attention to strengthening culture and identity and keeping families together. We work with an Indigenous Board of Directors, an Elders Advisory Committee and a Youth Advisory Committee.

What do Elders do?
Xyólheméylh Elders offer advice and counsel on matters regarding indigenous traditional knowledge. They meet with staff to help us deliver culturally competent services, participate in meetings, and lead cultural protocols and ceremonies.

Financial Remuneration
Any elder attending the monthly meeting, or any meeting requested by a Director of Operations or a Team Leader will receive an honorarium.
